Is Chick-fil-A Open on Christmas?
Christmas Day is a closed day at every U.S. restaurant. The company says this lets team members spend time with family and friends. News reports for 2025 repeated that all restaurants were closed on December 25. This closure has been the same for many years, so Friday, December 25, 2026 should be no different.

If you ask about Chick-fil-A Christmas Eve hours, the news is better. In 2025, USA TODAY reported that restaurants would be open on December 24, though some had limited hours. Exact closing times were not given. Many restaurants close earlier than usual before the holiday, so plan to go in the morning or at lunch.

Is Chick-fil-A Open on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day?
Last year, reports said most restaurants were open on December 31 and January 1, with some opening later or closing earlier than usual. One report suggested a start around 10:30 a.m. and an early close near 4 p.m. on some holiday dates, but it also said this varies. We treat that as a rough guide only. If you ask whether Chick-fil-A is open on New Year’s Day, the answer is yes at most locations, but confirm with your local restaurant.
New Year’s Day 2027 falls on a Friday, so it does not collide with the Sunday closure. Sunday, January 3, 2027, is closed as always.
Why Does Chick-fil-A Close on Sundays?
The company was started by S. Truett Cathy, who closed on Sundays so employees could rest and worship. The policy has continued since the first restaurant. It affects holidays that land on a Sunday, which is why a year can have extra closed days.
Where to Eat When Chick-fil-A Is Closed
On December 25, look at chains with drive-thru service, such as McDonald’s, Popeyes, KFC, Wendy’s or Waffle House. Hours vary by owner, so use their apps first.
Chick-fil-A Closed Days Each Year
Besides every Sunday, the chain closes on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Food courts and mall locations may also follow the host building, and a location inside a hospital, airport or college campus can have different rules.
Because owners run their own restaurants, a store may choose to close early on December 24 or December 31 so that team members can get home. Those choices are not announced nationally. The store page in the Chick-fil-A app is the best place to see the hours for each day.
Tips for Holiday Orders
- Place catering orders early, before the Christmas closure.
- Use the app to see the day’s hours for your restaurant.
- Expect busy lunch lines on Christmas Eve.
- Plan ahead if you want food on Christmas Day, because the chain will be closed.
